Is Your Tired DifferenT?

Lindsay’s Was

Lindsay was diagnosed with narcolepsy at 35 after having symptoms since she was a teenager. For 20 years, she rode a rollercoaster of exhaustion, masking her tired with caffeine and an overachiever personality while working for the White House as an Advance Staffer for President Obama. Sleep studies ruled out sleep apnea and numerous blood tests ruled out thyroid issues. Her doctors dismissed her symptoms - blaming it on everything from her love of using her laptop in bed to a punishing work schedule - and sent her on her way with a “Sleep Hygiene” handout. While everyone around her said they were tired, they were seemingly managing better than her. Her only options to keep doing the work she loved was to suck it up and drink more coffee.

At 35, she couldn’t take it anymore - she knew something was wrong but hadn’t gotten the medical attention she needed. After two decades, Lindsay was finally referred to a sleep specialist and got the answers she so desperately needed. Now she offers these crucial lessons to her audience, inspiring people to get in touch with their own sleep, and for those potentially facing their own sleep disorder, she shines a light on the diagnosis process and lets them know they are not alone.
